A Wormhole Operation of Epic Proportions

class-5-to-highsec-wormhole

I recently saw a massive battle report on EVE-Kill Capitals (which I fervently follow) in a wormhole and was intrigued. We don’t often get to hear about what goes on in a wormhole but it is something which interests and excites me, so I decided to go straight to the horse’s mouth and try to get as much information as possible.

The battle report in question: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=13000849

What peaked my interest with this however were the losses on both sides; one sided battles are generally over quickly and are just a slaughter, but on this particular report you can see the attacking forces losing capitals too. This looks like it was a great battle. So I went on over to Exhale’s public channel full of questions and hope and came away with more than I could have asked for. This report is so well written and so in-depth that I decided to not interfere with it and post it as-is. Big thanks to Myz Toyou for sharing this and major props to Exhale for both the execution of their operation and the following report of their actions.

A Video of the carnage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXtt70lmWDs

Some interesting statistics:
- 200bil Overall Damage
- 30bil Looted
- 36 Towers Purged

And now for the report straight from Myz Toyou:

Some people are in wormhole space to escape the burned in pvp mechanics of k-space and are attractive to the different mechanics which wormhole space offers, the limiting mass factor of wormholes, the sovereignty free systems and last but not least, no local. Others are here only to harvest the resources of wormhole space without contributing anything else to wormhole space. A good example of such corporations like that is the 104 member corporation Green-Core.

After having repeatedly opened a connection from our home system to Green-Core‘s home system and being rejected of any kind of engagement, even when they outnumbered us by far. We informed them in local that people like that will eventually get a free POS removal service if they keep on avoiding to take part in any activities in wormhole space other than harvesting the resources of it.
And that promise we kept.

DAY 1

At the evening of a glorious day, we were cycling our static for pvp activities.
After a few collapses, your scout jumped into what we thought would be just another j-sig number. But after a minute of silence or so the scout gave the J-sig number J111245. The current FC immediately gave the orders to man all available combat ships and get capital ships on standby. Even tough we were tired since it was late in the night we were also angry from earlier since the enemy had repeatedly denied us any engagements, so we decided to jump-start our previously planned operation against Green-Core, operation NEKKAR.
Since green-core anchored holding towers on all of their moons after we informed that their corporation had no business in wormhole space, we had to take down a POS with our already battle-weary crew. Initially we were just testing the waters, we had 2 guardians and sub caps for this stage and were mostly looking for a fight. When green-core blue balled us a second time during the same month, it was time to bring it. We jumped in our subcap fleet followed by a dread and a triage carrier. During the first night we established wormhole control, brought in more capital support and nuked towers into reinforce.

There was no response from green-core except closing a convo with us where there was nothing said.

DAY 2

During the second day all was uneventful except some slurs on voice-coms about whoring on module mails. It looked like they were not even going to try to defend their system, which stood on 11 large towers and holding towers on every moon. Instead they started the self-destruct routine. Continuously through the weekend they self-destructed everything from rookie ships, T3‘s and capitals. There were wrecks in almost all poses through the weekend until they were put down.

In a brave last attempt, to save their wormhole, green-core warped in the majority of their capital pilots and what sub caps they had to meet the invading Exhale alliance. Even tough green-core had an overwhelming capital advantage they did not get the upper hand. Green-core had caught the Exhale‘s capital fleet in a bad spot where the dreads were scattered from our triage carrier, which was forced to triage outside the dread fittings range to keep up with his own tank and dealing with incoming capacitor and armor request from our subcap fleet. Against the odds Exhale fought with superior tactics and managed to break the dreadnoughts and then cherry pick the carriers.

As the capitals were unable to break anything but the sieged max damage fitted dreads our sub-cap fleet sneaked onto them. Even tough the incoming damage was high and several Exhale‘s dreads were lost, the fight was quickly overturned with the forces of our sub-capital fleet. Two bhaalgorns did heroic work neuting anything capital that moved on the field, even tough these are so 2010 and late they are still needed and workhorses of any bigger support fleet. The icing on the cake were supplied by our dreads who even tough they were dying, put out massive damage on the hostiles.

-KILLMAIL REPORT-

When the dust cleared and we took a look over the graveyard and waited for the incoming mails, everyone had one big smile on their faces. We lost 5 dreads against 15 capitals and killed 14 of them with some of their subcaps as well. This is the best fight we have had in a very long time. Props to Green-Core for bringing it in the end.

After looting the field and getting everything back into order, we jump in more caps and continue with the remaining poses.

DAY 3

Just some finishing touches on poses that had full stront timers and front row tickets to the remaining ships being self-destructed.

RAW SUMMARY

- 11 Large active towers destroyed
- 25+ Small holding towers destroyed
- 14 capitals killed directly

In what way does fighting a battle against an unwilling opponent ‘contribute to wormhole space’ any more than exploiting wormhole resources? Sounds like a great fight, and I don’t fault them for pushing through the resistance, but that battle report comes off as a bit whiny with all the ‘Woe is me, they won’t fight us!’ attitude.
